Local news is written, produced and delivered by News Director Steve Shoffner.  Steve has been the news voice of Erie county and north central Ohio since 1994 and is responsible for anchoring newscasts on four different BAS operated stations (WLEC / WCPZ / WMJK / WTTF) located in Sandusky, Clyde and Tiffin.

Steve and his wife Kay live in Perkins township with their West Highland White Terrier, Sugar.  Sailing, rollercoasters and sports keep him busy throughout the year.  He is the host of the BAS Sports Network football pre game and post game shows and also delivers play-by-play of select high school basketball and baseball games.

Steve graduated from Cleveland State University with a BA in Communication - he also studied at the Ohio State University in Columbus after graduating from Shaker Heights Senior High School (just east of Cleveland), where he was born and raised.  Steve’s family is from Sandusky and he moved here in 1992 after his initial job in broadcasting ended (hosting the Mike Boyd coaches show on what was then known as SportsTime Ohio).  He worked for a time at the Sandusky Register as program and sports director for their low power television station W41AP-TV, which also appeared on the local cable system, before moving over to radio at WLEC in 1994, where he was named news director in 1995.

Steve is a voting member of the Radio Television News Directors Association (RTNDA), he is also a member of the Erie County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) - a past member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, and has been very active in supporting various charitable organizations in Erie County, including the Easter Seals of northern Ohio.  He has served as the on-air host for their annual auction event in Sandusky for the past 15 years.
